1. MORNING OUTLOOK
Pre-market futures are lower and suggesting that markets may open
flat to lower. European markets headed lower on Friday in thin trade, as
markets could not move further ahead without either an economic or
corporate catalyst. Tokyo's Nikkei Average hit fresh 15-month highs Friday
as Japanese banks continued their recent surge on reports of more financial
reforms while retailers gained ground on hopes that a strengthening economy
will encourage consumer spending.
U.S. stocks posted solid gains as the Dow Jones Industrial Average
rallied to a 15-month high and the Nasdaq crested above 1,900 as
positive reports on the economy helped offset concern over the
impact of Hurricane Isabel and NYSE Chairman Dick Grasso's
resignation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 113.48 points,
or 1.19 percent, to 9,659.13. The Nasdaq Composite rose 26.45
points, or 1.40 percent, to 1,909.55 while the Nasdaq 100 Index
rose 23.33 points, or 1.69 percent, to 1400.13. The Standard &
Poor's 500 Index rose 1.33 percent while the Russell 2000 Index of
small-capitalization stocks rose 0.85 percent. Volume amounted to
1.48 billion on the NYSE and 2.02 billion on the Nasdaq Stock
Market. Market breadth was positive, with Advancers were leading
Decliners by 2146 to 1072 on the NYSE. Nasdaq's Advancers were
leading Decliners by 1962 to 1217.
Dow gained 113 points to close at 9659. Dow is trading with
positive momentum above 50 and 200-Day MA. Dow is trading above
key resistance area (9600) and appears to be trending strong. Dow
could head even higher in the next few weeks to trade near 10000.
Watch 9700 for potential breakout while 9600 may provide
additional support. DOW's resistance levels are: 9779, 9904,
10059. DOW's support levels are: 9537, 9417, 9309. Nasdaq gained
26 points to close at 1909. Nasdaq is trading with positive
momentum above 50 and 200-day MA. Nasdaq also could trade higher
in the next few weeks. NASDAQ's resistance levels are: 1932, 1961,
1975. NASDAQ's support levels are: 1881, 1845, 1830. Friday's
trading could be cautious and active.
