Thank you for choosing Datek.
Please be advised that an Account Number is not assigned until the
application is received from you and the account is activated. Please
mail your account application along with your check to:
Datek
Attention: New Accounts
70 Hudson Street
Jersey City, NJ 07302
Please note, upon receipt of your signed application, Datek will
activate your account within 1-2 business days. Upon activating your
account, Datek will send an e-mail notification containing your Account
Number. Any foreign checks submitted with your application will be
credited to your account 2-4 weeks after your account is activated.
Please make sure that the check is made payable to Datek and includes
your UserName on the face of the check.
Cash and most securities can be transferred to Datek from another
brokerage account. All Nasdaq, NYSE, AMEX, Bulletin Board stocks and
certain mutual funds are accepted for transfer. You can transfer
Canadian stocks into your Datek account. However, we do not currently
trade these securities and you will need to call us in order to close
out these positions. Datek does not accept the transfer of stocks
trading exclusively on foreign exchanges.
Please refer to the information below in order to complete an ACAT
(Automated Customer Account Transfer). Important items of note
include:
1. You will be required to mail in a Datek transfer form, which must
be
signed by all parties involved in the transfer. Transfer forms can be
printed from our website at:
<http://www.datek.com/helpdesk/forms.html#transfer>
Your transfer form must be notarized or accompanied by a notarized
Letter of Authorization when transferring from an individual account at
another brokerage firm to a joint account at Datek.
If you experience any problems printing this form out, please e-mail us
back with your fax number or verify your mailing address and we will
fax
or mail one to you immediately.
2. You will be required to include a copy of your most recent monthly
statement from the brokerage firm you are transferring from. This is
necessary for verification of the account and will enable us to match
the name, account number, social security number, account type, and
assets within the account. The statement should also include the
delivering firm's telephone number and mailing address, just to ensure
that we have contact information on file.
3. Although all securities and investment products are accepted in a
transfer, some may not currently trade at Datek and you will be
required
to close these positions out. (Examples would include Canadian
Securities, some Mutual Funds, all non-DTC eligible OTC Bulletin Board
and Pink Sheets)
4. In most cases, you can only transfer between two accounts that are
the same type (Ex. individual to individual, IRA to IRA). If
transferring from a joint account to an individual account a notarized
Letter of Authorization (LOA) from the joint tenant stating that he/she
permits the transfer, must be submitted as well. Please also note that
both account holders must sign the transfer request and notarized
Letter
of Authorization.
5. Full account transfers generally complete in 2 to 4 weeks once
Datek
receives the transfer forms. Partial transfers can take up to 15
business days to be processed. You will receive a notification via
e-mail when Datek receives your transfer form for processing. Another
message will be sent when the assets are credited to your account.
For additional information regarding completing a transfer, please
refer
to the information below:
Methods of Transfer
There are two ways to transfer the holdings of another brokerage
account:
1. Liquidation:
If your brokerage account only contains cash, the most efficient way to
transfer is to have your other broker send a check to Datek. All
checks
must be made payable to Datek for the benefit of your name and account
number. Please note you must have an active account with an account
number, prior to sending this check to Datek.
2. Transfer Form:
The Datek Account Transfer Form allows you to transfer securities from
another brokerage firm to your Datek account. The transfer form will
give you the option to transfer either your entire account, part of
your
account (select securities to transfer) or your IRA or Pension & Profit
Sharing account to Datek. You can print this form from the HelpDesk
section of our website.
On the form, you will be required to indicate whether you intend to
transfer your account in full or partial. If you choose to transfer an
entire account, simply check the "Transfer the entire account" box. If
you only choose to transfer particular securities or funds, please fill
in the box right below designated for "Partial transfers only,"
indicating which specific securities or funds you wish to transfer to
your Datek account.
Hints for managing your transfer:
For non-IRA or non-Pension and Profit Sharing account please complete
page one of the transfer form. For IRA or Pension and Profit Sharing
accounts complete both sides of the transfer form.
You can include the transfer form with your account application or you
can send the form once your account is established. Once again, please
be sure to include a copy of your most recent account statement with
your transfer form. Also, be sure that all authorized account partners
sign the transfer form.
The transfer form must be returned via mail. Unfortunately, this
document cannot be accepted through e-mail or fax. This is to prove
signature authenticity and is solely due to the security of your
account. Upon receipt, your transfer will be initiated within 2 to 3
business days.
Delays may be caused if you trade in the account you are transferring
from, after submitting your account transfer form. Since trades do
take
three business days to settle, any trade could delay the transfer of
your account.
Your account may not be accessible for a small period of time while the
transfer is drawing to completion. There are a few days of processing
that are necessary from the time your securities are debited from your
other brokerage account, to the time that they are credited to your
Datek account. Please remember that you will receive an e-mail as soon
as the funds or securities are credited to your account.
Please send all Transfer Forms to:
Datek
Attn: Transfer Clerk
70 Hudson Street
Jersey City, NJ 07302
Datek does not charge fees for transferring in or out of accounts. If
you are transferring a margin account, you must have a minimum of 50%
equity for the transfer to be accepted and your Datek account must be
margin-enabled. To margin-enable your account, login to the Datek
Investment Site, select 'Settings' from the 'Account Services'
pull-down
menu, click on the 'Margin' link and follow the instructions on the
'Enable Margin' page.
