TSMC expects to have world's largest wafer capacity in two years. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. expects to be the
world's biggest producer of semiconductors within two years, a company official was cited by a newspaper as saying. TSMC, the
world's largest maker of chips on contract to other companies, claimed a 5.2% share of the world's semiconductor production capacity
last year, compared with 6.1% posted by Hynix Semiconductor and 5.1% of Intel Corp, TSMC North American president Edward
Ross said. He said TSMC is expected to raise its total monthly capacity to 381,000 eight-inch-equivalent wafers by the end of the
year from 332,000 at the end of March. In response to customer demand, TSMC is also set to accelerate its capacity expansion for 12-

The Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) October 15 call is one of the most active call contracts thus far today on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). 7,101 contracts have traded, all in several large blocks that went off at $0.40 between 10:42 and 10:44 a.m. eastern time. The trades all executed at the ask price, indicating a possible purchase. With only 297 contracts of open interest, this appears to be a bullish long call initiation. Although the $284,040 initial investment (not including commissions) is not a great deal of money (in comparison to the size of some institutional trades), playing an option that is over $4.00 out-of-the-money certainly puts it all at risk. In order to simply break even on the trade, TSM must rise to $15.40 by October expiration, a leap of more than 42 percent.
