As part of our effort to ensure that your account paperwork is current, we want to remind you that the IRS Form W-8BEN for your foreign entity in your TD Ameritrade account ending in ***5 will expire on December 31, 2011. Having a current W-8BEN on file is essential to avoid being subject to U.S. federal withholding tax.
We encourage you to provide us with the documentation listed below as quickly as possible. In order to comply with U.S. tax regulations, we will need to receive it no later than December 10, 2011, to allow for processing.
Please note that if we do not receive an updated W-8BEN by December 10, 2011, we will be required to convert your foreign account to a U.S. Taxpayer account after December 31, 2011. In addition, TD Ameritrade will be required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to withhold 28% of all interest, dividends and sales proceeds until complete documentation is received.
How to Update Your W-8BEN Form
If you have a U.S. mailing address on your account, please send us the following required material:
•A completed IRS Form W-8BEN from each account owner. For guidance in completing the form, please see below.
•A letter of instruction, signed by each account owner, explaining why your foreign account has a U.S. mailing address. (Please specify whose mailing address this is.)
•A legible copy of the current valid entry visa or passport for each account holder.
If you have an address outside the United States on your account, please send us a separate and completed IRS Form W-8BEN from each account owner. See below for guidance in completing the form.
Mailing Instructions:
•Due to U.S. Treasury regulations, we are unable to accept a fax of the IRS Form W-8BEN. You must mail the original hard copy of the form to us.
