I agree... probably tax losses. ASCL is willing to pick up all these shares around $4, that's probably why the stock didn't drop. I seriously doubt that someone other than ASCL is interested in buying ASCL at this point, at least not until ASCL proves it can compete against INFA. INFA appears to have the market and mind share.
I would expect a rather large drop in the price around 12/26 because ASCL can't prop up the stock at that point. Might be a good time to short! Stock will probably stay in the 3's until 30 days after the close of the quarter and then gather support again from the buy back. Just guessing, but I would think the float is down to about 230M or so, so there's still plenty of that $350M designated for buyback for the next quarter.
