Lehman scales back tech stock exposure By Tomi Kilgore
Lehman Bros. said it was cutting exposure to technology stocks and transferring the funds to traditional cyclicals.

"The recent rally has pushed technology valuations into the top-half of their non-bubble trading range," said portfolio strategist Joseph Rooney. "By contrast, traditional cyclicals remain towards the bottom end of their relative valuation range. A revival in growth expectations will be the catalyst to drive another leg of cyclical outperformance."

In an interview with Barron's, Steve Milunovich of Merrill Lynch said that

(CSCO) should be the prime beneficiary of a surge in interest in voice-over Internet Protocol. Why? Cisco, formidable in its size, needs to find new markets to enter, and voice over IP could be the ticket for them.

In the same interview, Milunovich touted Internet Security Systems (ISSX)

and Check Point Software (CHKP) among the computer security stocks,

and storage company EMC (EMC) for its data-mirroring software. In addition,

he sees Cisco, Extreme Networks (EXTR)

and Riverstone (RSTN) capitalizing on the growing importance of Ethernet and take business from Nortel (NT), Lucent (LU:
and Alcatel (ALA).

For defensive plays, Milunovich touted computer services firms like Electronic Data Systems (EDS), First Data (FDC) and Affiliated Computer Services (ACS). And while he called most semiconductor stocks "too expensive," Milunovich said he liked Maxim (MXIM) and Analog Devices (ADI), both analog companies
